With the completion of the Church, all
attention was directed toward the
establishment of a school. A two family
house opposite the Church on the South
Eastern corner of 241st Street and
Martha Avenue was secured as a convent
and Reverend Sisters Bertille, Gertrude
Marie and Agnes Marion of the Sisters of
Charity, took possession on the Feast of
the Epiphany in 1913. By February of
1913, 104 children were divided into
three grades and classes began in the
basement of the Church. Additional space
was needed almost immediately and two
classrooms and a principal's office. On
April 13, 1916, John Cardinal Farley
returned to St. Barnabas to dedicate the
new building. Over time, the original
building has undergone several major
expansions and seen its high school
students move to a new facility hat
opened in September of 1959. (To

Msgr. Barry
is pleased to announce that Mr. Michael Musante has been chosen
as principal of St. Barnabas High School.
For the past
eight years he has been principal of a co-ed parish high school, St.
Joseph’s West New York, New Jersey. He has also been on the staff of
Immaculate Conception School, Bronx; Director of the YMCA in
Maplewood, New Jersey. His college is St. Francis, Brooklyn and
Graduate Studies at N.Y.U., Trenton State and Fordham University.
Msgr. is
very grateful to the Search Committee members for their help and
insight and also to all the faculty and staff for their love and
support of St. Barnabas High School.

High School News
Softball
We are proud to announce that the high
school girls’ softball team went into the year end championship
series with a 9 to 1 record. On May 21st our girls
played Aquinas High School and won Second Place in the CHSAA
Championship.
Congratulations girls and thanks to Coach Viceroy and Assistant
Coach Loskorski.
Sixth Annual Spring Art Show
The Fine Arts Department cordially invites you to attend the
Sixth Annual Spring Art Show on Wednesday, May 31st
from 6-8pm in the high school gymnasium.
St. Barnabas High School Personalities
Four St. Barnabas High School parishioners won college
scholarships. The students are also graduates of St. Barnabas
elementary School.
Ashley Cunningham
has received scholarships to Quinnipiac University, Adelphi
University, Iona College, Mount St. Mary College and the College
of Mount St. Vincent. She is also a Valedictorian for the Class
of 2006. She plans to attend Quinnipiac University.
Kathleen Hannon
has been awarded scholarships to the College of Mount St.
Vincent and to Iona College. She plans to attend the College of
Mount St. Vincent.
Bridget Mulroy
has received scholarships to Fordham University, Quinnipiac
University, Iona College, St. John’s University, and Stonehill
College. She is also a Valedictorian for the Class of 2006.
Bridget will be attending Quinnipiac University in the fall.
Pauline Murray
has been awarded scholarships to Iona College and WoodTobe-Coburn
College. She plans to attend the Laboratory Institute of
Merchandising.
Over 48% of the Class of 2006 have received scholarships.
