MESSAGE OF WELCOME

A parish is the place where people meet God. This meeting happens in our liturgy, in our love for each other and in our thirst for knowledge of God. St. Barnabas Parish will be that place for you. We are nearly 100 years old but are ever new with each person who joins us in our communal efforts to grow closer to God and one another. St. Barnabas Parish opens its doors and hearts so that it can be your home with God.

  Rev. Monsignor Edward M. Barry
Pastor
  Rev. Father John F. Antony
Parochial Vicar
   Rev. Father Eric D. Rapaglia
Parochial Vicar
  Deacon. Vincent I. Laurato

HISTORY OF OUR PARISH

The Parish of St. Barnabas, Woodlawn and McLean Heights, NY, was established by the Most Reverend John M. Farley, Archbishop of New York, on June 11, 1910. The Archbishop held the parish close to his heart and on November 5, 1911 he dedicated the new church a cardinal- designate. He entrusted the new parish to the Reverend Michael A. Reilly, a dynamic preacher and member of the mission band believed his new opportunity would lead to a new era in the area. He believed that a Catholic Church with a school would attract hundreds of families and that the neighborly spirit of the non-Catholics of the vicinity would help cement the bonds of Christian fellowship needed for the Parish to endure.
