Year of Faith

10/21/2012

This October 2012 is called Respect Life Month.
The purpose of this period is to affirm and embrace the God-given gift of life and not just any kind of life but human life made in the image and likeness of God from conception until natural
death.

Year of Faith

Have you noticed the above image of the Church for the Year of Faith?

Hopefully and faithfully, you will grow accustomed to the image and it will nourish your conversion to Jesus Christ. The image is that of sailboat with the initials “IHS,” which is an ancient Greek abbreviation of our Lord’s name, emblazoned upon the sail of the boat. This image presents the Roman Catholic Church as on a journey towards and with Christ. This journey is a miraculous one that is a free gift from God that we are each invited to fully participate in. Pope Benedict XVI declared the year from October 11, 2012 through November 24, 2013 to be the Year of Faith.

Our Holy Father chose the commencement of the year to mark two anniversaries. October 11, 1962 was the commencement of the Second Vatican Council, which examined the Roman Catholic Church in the modern world. The second anniversary is the publication on October 11, 1992 on the Catechism of the Catholic Church, which is presentation of the deposit of faith entrusted to the Apostles (the original fishermen and fishes of men) by Jesus Christ.

In his Apostolic Letter, Porta fidei (“Door of Faith”), our Holy Father wrote that the Year of Faith “is a summons to an authentic and renewed conversion to the Lord, the one Savior of the world. In the mystery of his death and resurrection, God has revealed in its fullness the Love that saves and calls us to conversion of life through the forgiveness of sins.” The Holy

Father acknowledges the attacks of modern society upon the Church and calls for a renewed response to Jesus and His Church. The resources listed below will help you and your family to grow spiritually during this Year of Faith. The journey with Jesus Christ is getting ready to set sail, ARE YOU GOING TO BE ON THE BOAT OF CHRIST?

The Catholic Church and our parish needs a boost. Many are following Christ and following His teachings. This year is a call to be joy-filled witnesses to Christ and a call to lead others to Him.
